BCS is to be conducted in 3 stages including a 'knowledge-skill-mental test'. After the mass uprising, the Public Service Commission (PSC) has taken the initiative to bring about major changes in the BCS examination. The new chairman and members of the commission are taking various steps to ensure transparency in recruitment. They are planning to introduce new rules.
As part of the reform, the PSC has planned to conduct the BCS oral examination (viva) in three stages this time. Before the final recommendation of the candidates who pass the preliminary and written examinations, knowledge, skill, and mental ability tests will be conducted.
PSC Chairman Professor Dr. Mobasher Monem spoke to the media on the matter. He said we have made several plans to make the BCS examination more acceptable to job seekers. The issue of conducting the oral examination in three stages is also part of this plan. We have discussed it initially. If it is implemented, everyone will be informed.
When asked what will be verified in each stage of the examination if there is a viva in three stages, the PSC Chairman said, that in the first stage, the examiner will verify the extent of the candidate's knowledge. The general knowledge skills of the candidate will be verified in the second stage. In the third stage, a psychological test will be taken. These are preliminary discussions. There may be changes in this too.
Earlier, the marks of the BCS oral exam have been reduced to 100. Moreover, the government has reduced the application fee from 700 taka to 200 taka.
On the other hand, the PSC's plan includes giving the opportunity to take the oral exam three times if you pass the written exam once, the opportunity to challenge the answer sheets (books) of all stages of BCS, and to quickly complete the BCS by overcoming the bottleneck, the written exam book will be evaluated by one examiner instead of two examiners, etc.

If you are selected for this, you will get the opportunity to take the written and oral test after passing it. You have to apply for each BCS separately. The PSC has taken up a plan to radically change this long-running process.
According to the new plan, if a job seeker is selected in the preliminary test, he may be given the opportunity to take three consecutive BCS written tests. In this case, he will not have to apply or participate in the prelims.
Again, the PSC wants to give the candidate who passes the prelims and written tests the opportunity to take the oral test three times in a row. The issues are still at the planning stage of the PSC.
The two plans can be finalized after the opinions and discussions of various stakeholders. It is not possible to say exactly when this will be possible. However, PSC sources said that an attempt will be made to follow this method from the 48th BCS next year.
PSC officials said that while applying online, candidates will be given a unique ID. Through this ID, candidates will submit all their educational qualification documents online. As a result, the candidate's information and data will be stored on the PSC server.
If the candidate passes the prelims, that data will be updated automatically. Later, if he passes the written test, it will also be updated. The candidate can log in using the ID password at any time and view his information.
Through this ID, it will be known whether a candidate has passed the prelims or the written exam or not.
PSC Chairman Professor Mobasher Monem said we have made some plans. These have not been finalized yet. Everything will be finalized after discussing with the members of the commission. The rules will be introduced considering the benefits of job seekers.
